I will read it soon and probably make a translation or something of it. :-)

I tried 64bit which was somewhat faster but the whole X got locked quite often, I think because of the flash plugin + compiz. The mouse cursor still moved, music continued playing, Pidgin logged incoming messages but keyboard stopped working plus every other graphic on the screen froze (eg: CPU monitor on my panel).

Don't you have any problems? 32bit is much more stable but I still got a random crash of X (even though I wasn't using flash at that time).

Once more thank you for the guide. You saved me and others a lot of time.Tritoniohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03062520886873588956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5420973216298028808.post-20128192370054273492008-11-14T14:58:00.000+02:002008-11-14T14:58:00.000+02:00Here is my new version of your tutorial:http://www...Here is my new version of your tutorial:

http://www.islatux.es/ubuntu-intrepid-ibex-en-un-sony-vaio-fz38m/

If you want, you can copy for add in your blog and quickly have your guide.Shawehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08210634414379037321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5420973216298028808.post-15947264643501539332008-11-14T00:45:00.000+02:002008-11-14T00:45:00.000+02:00Tritonio sorry, but with this laptop, is better to...Tritonio sorry, but with this laptop, is better to you use amd64 version, is more optimized for new generation of CPU, intel C2d and AMD, have "64bits" (not really for me) but laptop work a little better.Shawehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08210634414379037321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5420973216298028808.post-62993148099734786202008-11-13T14:42:00.000+02:002008-11-13T14:42:00.000+02:00To control the brightness on XP you need the Xtrem...To control the brightness on XP you need the Xtreme-G drivers.

http://www.tweakforce.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=15

You need to register on the forum to download them.Tritoniohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03062520886873588956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5420973216298028808.post-6085135427817339122008-11-13T14:38:00.000+02:002008-11-13T14:38:00.000+02:00Hi Shawe.I managed to control the brightness even ...Hi Shawe.

I managed to control the brightness even on XP by using some tweaked NVIDIA drivers (I don't remember which exactly). I never tried to make the function keys work and the brightness control though NVIDIA settings was really buggy, sometimes causing the backlight to turn of untill a power off.

I cannot test the deb file you used because I am on 32bit Ubuntu Intrepid. I will try to compile it on my own again; last time I had problems doing it.

Finally with Intrepid there are sound problem which I still haven't found a way to resolve. It's my mistake that I used "at the end of the file". I will update the how-to now.

Post back if you still have problems.Tritoniohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03062520886873588956noreply@blogger.com
